Politics in the Middle-East
Israel's Labor (left) party is joining Ariel Sharon's government.
My take: In return for power- eight cabinet positions, and Shimon Peres gets to be called 'Deputy Prime Minister'- they smear the legacy of Rabin by signing on with the Butcher. They must understand that his ultimate goal is anything but peace with a coherent Palestinian state; the fact that they are willing to endorse his shady political maneuvering is an embarrassment to pacifists everwhere. Israel's left has truly lost its representation.
That said, for all I know it was the best move. I'm not sure that they have any real alternative.
