photos of Egypt
I spent two weeks in Egypt during February 2004. Read about it

Aside from the border officers meticulously inspecting my every possession, I felt very welcome.
Dahab, on the Red Sea.
In Dahab I ran into my Hungarian friend Geri, who I'd met in Amman, Jordan.
Accommodations in Dahab are pretty shabby.
The hoards of tourists descend on the Karnak Temple, in Luxor.
Big statue.
Massive, ornately carved columns in the Karnak Temple.
My Aussie friend Hezie as we ferry across the Nile.
Two Kiwis and Chad from LA.
Our guide called himself Sunshine. Those huge statues in the background are called the Colossi of Memmnon.
Indeed.
Hezie gets a lesson in sheesha smoking from our friend Belal.
An obelisk at the Luxor Temple.
Luxor Temple.
Hieroglyphics!
At the big damn in Aswan with Hezie, Chad, Millie and Anita (friendly Canadians)... and some random Egyptians who really wanted a photo with us.
A smiling shoeshine boy in Aswan.
I forget what this temple is called, and don't have my journal handy to look it up. It's pretty nice though!
Dining in Aswan. We skipped the place that had a cat climbing through the pile of pitas, and came here instead.
Huge temple carved into rock: Abu Simbel.
The keymaster, or the gatekeeper?
One relaxed felucca captain.
Walking through a Nubian village on an island in the Nile near Aswan.
A boy and his tub.
Relaxing on a felucca.
Nile scene.
Captain 'Ali Baba' and me.
Sail mending in Aswan
The Nile at its bluest.
Part of Cairo's skyline. Try and count the minarets.
Sitting on the great pyramid of Giza.
Big. Triangular.
For some reason I expected the Sphinx to be bigger.
The clutches of capitalism are far reaching.
Postcard.
Sampling some flavored tobacco (really) in one of Cairo's countless sheesha bars.
Posing with my awesome travel companions at the Garden Village Palace Hotel, in Cairo.
A belly dancer at the wedding I attended in Cairo.
A spice vendor in Cairo's huge market.
