photos of Jordan (that is, the Hashemite Kingdom of)
I was in Jordan during February 2004. Read about it here.
Here are some shots of Amman.
Amman's Roman Theater, from above.
This is Amman's Citadel, a hilltop archaeological site that's only been excavated in the last century. Folks have been praying on this site for quite a while.
These kids followed me around Amman for over an hour, repeatedly asking "What's your name!" I think that's the only English they knew.
The Pita Man.
My friend Hae Young at Darat al-Funan, an art gallery/archaeological site in Amman.
A view of northern Jordan from the castle in Aljoun.
Jerash's town square. Yeah, it's pretty old.
Massive fountain, Jerash.
Old and new.
If you stick a penny in the base at just the right spot, you can see this huge column sway. No joke.
A small fraction of a mosaic map of the holy land, in Madaba. It's 1500 years old, originally 94 square meters. Boggles the mind.
Another amazing Madaba mosaic.
Petra. Huge Roman theater carved into the red rock.
When I caught this first view of the Treasury in Petra, after a 20 minute walk through a narrow canyon, I shrieked like a little girl.
The massive Monestary, in Petra. That's me in the doorway.
Tombs carved into rock, Petra.
A view of the Treasury from above. Look familiar? It's in the final scene of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade".
My Bedouin friend Aida. She said that if I was Bedouin, I would be her boyfriend.
For those of you who didn't believe me when I told you that I've seen blue rocks.
The vast silence of Wadi Rum.
Our guide, Salem, entertains us in the tent that we spent the night in out in the desert.
Chillin' in Wadi Rum with my German friends Maurice, Yosha and Yerka.
A Jeep tour through the desert. That's Yosha, I think.
